While I was career services, I learned that I have no idea what I want to do with my life. It was a different experience because we were on seeing what a computer told us what our interest pointed to us becoming in life. In my opinion It was not true at all because it said that I should be a college professor or a bookkeeper. All of my categories where very low and I guess that's because im really not interested in alot of things and the things that I am interested in and the things that i am interested in will not make me any money. But all in all the career services meeting was a help because I guess now I atleast know what I dont want to do.
First, I don't believe that you are not interested in ANYTHING. Second, as you mentioned in your discussion post, it is important that you find a career that makes you happy. The money will come in time. I know that may sound cliche' but it is true. Besides, making a lot of money in a career or job that you don't like isn't compensation for the unhappiness or dissatisfaction you feel.
ReplyDeleteWhile living out West in Las Vegas and California I was able to meet some of the world's most famous people and work in some of the most beautiful buildings and cities. The pay wasn't that bad either, but I was so unhappy. I was drained physically from working 12 hour days, mentally from always having to be professional, and spiritually and socially because I was never able to meet any friends because I was always working. Needless to say, I quit both jobs and am now working towards a career that I feel is right for me and that makes me happy---higher education and working with talented students like you!
I won't make as much money in higher education, but that doesn't matter to me as much anymore as when I was a bit younger. At the end of the day, I feel that I am really making an impact and that's all the payment/compensation I need!
